Description

Beefaroni is a comforting and hearty pasta dish featuring ground beef, macaroni, and a rich tomato-based sauce with melted cheese. Here is a typical homemade Beefaroni recipe that’s easy to prepare and perfect for weeknight dinners:

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • ½ cup yellow onion, diced

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 3 tablespoons butter

  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste

  • 2 cups cheddar cheese (shredded), divided

  • ½ lb elbow macaroni (about 2 cups)

  • Sauce Ingredients:

    • 1 ½ cups beef broth

    • 8 oz tomato sauce

    • ½ cup half and half

    • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

    • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard

    • 1 teaspoon ketchup

    • ½ beef bouillon cube (optional)

    • ¾ teaspoon each dried oregano, basil, parsley

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Sauce Base: In a large measuring cup or bowl, combine beef broth, tomato sauce, half and half, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, ketchup, bouillon, and dried herbs. Set aside.

  2. Cook Beef: Season ground beef with salt and pepper. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook ground beef, breaking it apart, for about 3 minutes. Add diced onions and cook until beef is cooked through and onions are softened, about 5-6 minutes. Drain excess fat and set meat aside.

  3. Make Roux and Sauce: In the same skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add garlic, flour, and tomato paste; stir and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant. Gradually add the prepared sauce mixture, stirring continuously to avoid lumps. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to simmer.

  4. Add Cheese & Beef: Stir in cheese gradually, reserving some for topping. Return cooked beef and onions to the skillet, mixing well.

  5. Cook Pasta: Meanwhile, cook macaroni to al dente per package instructions; drain. Stir cooked macaroni into the sauce and beef mixture.

  6. Serve: Optionally sprinkle remaining cheese on top and cover to melt. Serve warm.
