Description

Soft bread slices rolled around a sweet filling, dipped in egg custard, pan-fried until golden, and rolled in cinnamon sugar. These bite-sized French toast roll ups are perfect for breakfast, brunch, or as a kid-friendly treat.


Ingredients

  • 8 slices sandwich bread (white or whole wheat, crusts removed)

  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened, or Nutella, jam, or fruit spread

  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar (for filling, optional)

  • 1 cup chopped strawberries, bananas, or other fruit (optional)

  • 2 large eggs

  • ¼ cup milk

  • ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter (for frying)

  • ¼ cup granulated sugar (for coating)

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for coating)


Instructions

  1. Flatten bread slices with a rolling pin.

  2. Spread a thin layer of cream cheese, Nutella, or jam on each slice. Add chopped fruit if desired, and roll up tightly.

  3. In a shallow dish, whisk eggs, milk, and ¼ teaspoon cinnamon.

  4. In another shallow dish, combine ¼ cup sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon for rolling after cooking.

  5. Heat 1 tablespoon butter in a nonstick skillet over medium heat.

  6. Dip each roll up in the egg mixture, coating all sides, then place in the skillet seam side down.

  7. Cook a few minutes on each side, turning to brown all over. Add more butter as needed for subsequent batches.

  8. Immediately roll hot roll ups in cinnamon sugar. Serve warm.
