Description

Gemelli pasta is a versatile short pasta shape excellent for holding sauces. Here is a delicious gemelli pasta recipe featuring a rich tomato sauce packed with garlic, onion, and herbs, finished with butter for creaminess:

Ingredients

Scale
  • 10 oz gemelli pasta

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

  • 1 small onion, diced

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

  • 14 oz can crushed tomatoes

  • 1 teaspoon dried basil or oregano

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • ½ teaspoon sugar

  • 1 tablespoon butter

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook gemelli pasta according to package instructions (about 9 minutes) until al dente. Drain, reserving some pasta water.

  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Sauté onions for 5-7 minutes until softened.

  3. Add garlic and red pepper flakes, cook for 1 minute until fragrant.

  4. Stir in crushed tomatoes, dried basil, salt, and sugar. Simmer for 5-10 minutes.

  5. Stir in butter until melted, then add cooked pasta. Toss to combine, adding reserved pasta water a little at a time if sauce needs thinning.
