Description

These rolls combine the gooey, nutty sweetness of pecan pie with the fluffy, cinnamon-swirled dough of classic cinnamon rolls, topped with a luscious cream cheese frosting or caramel glaze. Perfect for a decadent breakfast or dessert.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Dough:

  • 1 cup warm milk

  • 1 packet instant active dry yeast (2¼ tsp)

  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar

  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled

  • 1 large egg

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour

For the Pecan Pie Filling:

  • ¼ cup light corn syrup

  • 1 large egg

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1 cup chopped pecans

  • ½ cup packed dark brown sugar

  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened

For the Frosting (optional):

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened

  • ⅓ cup unsalted butter, softened

  • 2½ cups powdered sugar

  • 1 teaspoon maple or vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a stand mixer bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and sugar; let rest 5 minutes until foamy.

  2. Add melted butter, egg, and salt. Gradually add flour and knead with dough hook for 3 minutes until dough is sticky yet elastic. Transfer to greased bowl, cover, and let rise 1 hour until doubled.

  3. Meanwhile, whisk corn syrup, egg, vanilla in a bowl. Stir in pecans. In separate bowl, combine brown sugar and cinnamon. Set aside.

  4. Roll dough on floured surface to 9×13-inch rectangle. Spread softened butter over dough, leaving a thin border. Sprinkle cinnamon sugar evenly. Dollop pecan mixture in small spoonfuls over sugar, pressing lightly.

  5. Roll dough tightly from long edge, pinch seam to seal. Slice into 9 rolls with dental floss or sharp knife, discard uneven edges.

  6. Place rolls spaced in greased 10-inch round or 9×13-inch pan. Cover and let rise 30 minutes more.

  7. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake rolls 25-30 minutes until golden and cooked through.

  8. For frosting: Beat cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, and extract until creamy. Spread on warm rolls or serve on the side.
