Description

A patriotic no-bake dessert with vibrant red, white, and blue layers. Layers of sweet cake, tangy cream cheese, and fresh berries (strawberry and blueberry) create a refreshing, crowd-pleasing finale to any summer meal. Effortless assembly and make-ahead flexibility make this trifle a perfect holiday dessert.

Ingredients

Scale

1 (1.5 lb) vanilla cake or pound cake, cooled and crumbled
8 oz cream cheese, softened
1 cup powdered sugar for cream cheese layer
2 tbsp vanilla extract
2 cups strawberries, hulled and sliced
1 cup blueberries, crushed
1 pint whipping cream (2 cups), whipped
1 tbsp powdered sugar for whipped cream
Red food coloring (optional)
Blue food coloring (optional)

Instructions

Prepare and let cake cool completely
Combine cream cheese, 1 cup powdered sugar, and vanilla extract in a bowl until smooth
Divide half the cream cheese mixture into a bowl and add red food coloring (optional) for the red layer
In another bowl, whip cream cheese mixture and leave the remaining for the second layer
In a separate bowl, whip the 2 cups heavy cream with 1 tbsp powdered sugar and a pinch of blue food coloring (optional)
Layer 1/3 cake in a trifle dish
Spread red-colored cream cheese and layer strawberries for the first layer
Repeat with second cake layer and blueberries for the second layer
Top with white cream cheese and blue-tinted whipped cream
Chill for 45 minutes before serving

Notes

Use store-bought cake and frozen berries (thawed in advance) for time-saving convenience
Adjust fruit ratios based on availability
For a non-eggy option, substitute whipped cream with dairy-free alternative if preferred
Cover and refrigerate overnight for enhanced flavor melding
