Description
Funnel Cake is a classic fairground treat made from a simple batter that’s poured through a funnel or similar tool into hot oil in a circular pattern, then fried until crisp and golden. It’s traditionally dusted with powdered sugar and enjoyed warm, offering a crunchy exterior with a light, airy interior.
Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 ½ cups milk
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Vegetable oil, for frying
Powdered sugar, for dusting
Instructions
In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
In another bowl, whisk milk, eggs, and vanilla extract until combined.
Gradually add wet ingredients to dry, whisking until smooth batter forms.
Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep skillet or fryer to 375°F (190°C).
Pour batter into a funnel or squeeze bottle. Holding over hot oil, drizzle batter in a circular pattern to form a lacy design. Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
Remove with tongs or slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
Dust generously with powdered sugar before serving.
